Activity 1 - Business Communication
Activity 1
1. How do you define
communication? For me it is an ability to be able to transmit
facts, ideas, opinions, feelings and many other things, which allows us to
understand others in a better way. It can also be verbal or non-verbal.
2. What is the role of
communication in management of business? The success of
any business depends largely on efficient and effective communication, its main
objective is to make changes to influence action. Within organizations there is
internal and external communication that allows teamwork, achieve common goals
and have better communication. The basic problem of communication is that the
meaning that is really understood may not be the one that the other intended to
send but working as a team that can be avoided.
3. What are the different
purposes of communication? Briefly explain any five of them.
- For instruction:
This is about conveying instructions and ideas so that individual tasks can be
performed. In this, the instructions basically flow from the top to the bottom
level.
- For integration:
The function of integration of communication mainly involves causing the
interrelation between the various functions of the business organization.
- For information:
The purpose or function of communication in an organization is to inform the
individual or group about the particular task or company policies and
procedures, etc. Information can flow vertically, horizontally, and diagonally
through the organization.
- For evaluation: Communication can be used as a tool to evaluate the effectiveness of individual and team organization and communication.
- For direction: Communication is necessary to issue directions by the top management ormanager to the lower level. Employee can perform better when he is directed by his senior.
4. Discuss the different
situations when the communication exists.
There are 4
basic components for communication.
- When a person wants to convey an idea or
information.
- There is another person who resives this
information.
- The receiver partly or wholly understands the information.
- The receiver responds to the message or gives
feedback.
5. “Communication is an exchange of facts, ideas, opinions and emotions by two or more persons.” Explain the statement and discuss the role of feedback in communication.
An assertive
communication always needs at least one receiver since if this does not exist
the information, ideas, feelings, etc. will not be transmitted. The important
thing about communication is that someone resonates what you want to transmit.
6. “Communication is the two way process.” Explain.
Good
communication needs two parts, one that transmits and one that resides, if one
of these two fails, it is not considered assertive communication because there
will be no one who can give feedback on your ideas.
- Sender or transmitter: The person who desires to convey the message.
- Message: It is a subject matter of any communication.
- Encoding: organize ideas to be transmitted.
- Communication channel: Is the media through which the message passes. It is the link that connects the sender and the receiver.
- Receiver: The person who receives the message.
- Decoding: Decoding is the process of interpretation of an encoded message.
- Feedback: Is the one who gives a feedback or response to the message.
- Brain drain: On whole process there is a possibility of misunderstandings at any level.
9. Give three examples of
brain drain in communication process.
- When we do not speak the same language, it will be very difficult for an idea or information to be transmitted because they will not be able to understand us.
- When it is not spoken in a clear and fluent way, because we will not be able to keep the attention of the receiver and what we want to transmit will not be understood.
- When the receiver is not focused on what we are saying, they are distracted or inattentive.
I think that you organized your ideas pretty well, and I share most of them. It seems to me that it's true the basic problem of communication you mention in the second answer. It's needed the feedback, with it we can see if the receiver correctly interprets the message.
ResponderEliminarMoreover, your third example of brain drain is very common and it is annoying that someone doesn't pay attention when you are talking to.
Good job.
