10 - Task 1 Human Resources

Define Human resources. Human resources (HR) is the division of a business that is charged with finding, screening, recruiting, and training job applicants, as well as administering employee-benefit programs. HR plays a key role in helping companies deal with a fast-changing business environment and a greater demand for quality employees.

What is the role of human resources? Define in detail. The presence of an HR department is an essential component of any business, regardless of the organization's size. An HR department is tasked with maximizing employee productivity and protecting the company from any issues that may arise within the workforce. HR responsibilities include compensation and benefits, recruitment, firing, and keeping up to date with any laws that may affect the company and its employees. Research conducted by The Conference Board, a member-driven economic think tank, has found six key people-related activities that HR must effectively do to add value to a company. These include:

  • Managing and using people effectively
  • Tying performance appraisal and compensation to competencies
  •  Developing competencies that enhance individual and organizational performance
  • Increasing the innovation, creativity, and flexibility necessary to enhance competitiveness
  • Applying new approaches to work process design, succession planning, career development, and inter-organizational mobility
  • Managing the implementation and integration of technology through improved staffing, training, and communication with employees

What is Capital? Capital is a broad term that can describe any thing that confers value or benefit to its owner, such as a factory and its machinery, intellectual property like patents, or the financial assets of a business or an individual. While money itself may be construed as capital is, capital is more often associated with cash that is being put to work for productive or investment purposes.

In your opinion, is human resources necessary? Explain.  I believe that a department of HR Within a company it is very necessary and important, because everything related to employees depends on it, from their interview to enter and evaluate if they can contribute to the company until their end within the company. This will make the company much more effective and that all its processes are carried out in the best way.

What are the main areas of Human resources? A human resources professional must understand the functional areas of their department so they can assist employees as needed. At the same time, they must also develop plans to expand human resources practices so they can have a positive impact on the rest of the organization. Here are eight of the functional areas that a human resources team can focus on:

  • Recruiting and staffing employees
  • Employee benefits
  • Employee compensation
  • Employee and labor relations
  • Human resources compliance
  • Organizational structure
  • Human resources information and payroll
  • Employee training and development

Define Human resource management. Human Resource Management, or HRM, is the practice of managing people to achieve better performance.

  • For example, if you hire people into a business, you are looking for people who fit the company culture as they will be happier, stay longer, and be more productive than people who won’t fit into the company culture.
  • Another example is engagement. Engaged employees are more productive, deliver higher quality work and make customers happier. This means that if we can find ways to make employees more engaged, we help the company.

What are the main responsibilities of a Human Resource Manager? Define them in detail.

1.     Recruitment & selection: Recruiting candidates and selecting the best ones to come and work for the company is a key HR responsibility. People are the lifeblood of the organization and finding the best fits is a key task.

2.     Performance management: It involves helping people to become their best selves at work, boosting the company’s bottom line. Usually, employees have a defined set of responsibilities that they need to take care of. Performance management is a structure that enables employees to get feedback on their performance – to reach their best performance.

3.     Learning & development: Learning and development helps employees to reskill and upskill. Learning & Development (L&D) is led by HR and good policies can be very helpful in advancing the organization towards its long-term goals.

4.   Succession planning: Succession planning is the process of planning contingencies in case of key employees leaving the company. If, for example, a crucial senior manager quits his/her job, having a replacement ready will guarantee continuity and can save the company significant money.

5.     Compensation and benefits: Fair compensation is key in motivating and retaining employees. One of the fundamentals of human resource management concerning pay is ensuring equity and fairness.

6.     Human Resource Information System: An HRIS supports all the cornerstones we discussed above. For example, for recruitment and selection, HR professionals often use an Applicant Tracking System, or ATS, to keep track of applicants and hires. For performance management, a performance management system is used to keep track of individual goals and put in performance ratings.

7.     HR data and analytics: These are specific measurements that answer how a company is doing on a given measurement. This is referred to as HR reporting.

Which of the responsibilities you mentioned in the previous questions do you think is the most challenging or a HRM? Why? I believe that recruitment and selection because it depends on this task that all the others can be carried out effectively, without workers who have the desire to contribute to the company, it will not be possible to continue with the HR processes.

What are the most important skills of a Human Resource Manager? I think it is to be able to have the vision of what the company needs, the objectives and goals that the company needs to achieve and who it wants to address, in a few words, know the company. In order to recruit potential employees who comply with the values of the company and effectively follow all the tasks performed by HR.
